Village Voice - HYENA's convoluted tale is given a fresh coat of grime by Johnson's direction, which favors handheld cinematography -- often tracking its protagonists from behind -- that gives the action a pseudo-vΘritΘ ruggedness., Radio Times - ...the film generally does a good job of breathing life back into a well-worn genre., Los Angeles Times - HYENA feels like a throwback to the tough-as-nails British gangster flicks of the 1970s., The Observer - The locations - London, Amsterdam, Berlin, Los Angeles - are well deployed, the violence relentless, and the film is beautifully lit by veteran TV and film cameraman Mike Southon., The List - The script makes the most of its strong central idea and the dialogue is surprisingly decent, with moments of humour offsetting the tension.
