When Charlestown fell on May 12, 1780, a horrific partisan war began, growing in scale and savagery. Determined to crush the last vestiges of rebellion, Cornwallis sent the hard-charging Banastre Tarleton in pursuit of Daniel Morgan's rebel army through the South Carolina interior.
