"Saxon Math 6/5: Math 65: An Incremental Development" is designed for the average-to-advanced fifth-grade mathematics student. It could also be used for a sixth-grade student if appropriate. Free placement tests are available on the Saxon website. Saxon uses a spiral approach to learning. It teaches students a concept and then reviews it continuously as they learn new concepts. Every other day, the mixed practice section includes problems that integrate what the student has learned previously. This repeated exposure allows a student to increase understanding and gain mastery. The "Saxon Math" book is used in schools and is popular in homeschool scenarios. This Saxon textbook is designed for a student to use on a daily basis. It takes a rules-based approach to instruction. Some students will be able to advance through this book independently. That makes this text ideal for homeschooled children. The program builds upon concepts previously taught in the "Math 4/5" book. It includes the continual development of concepts, such as whole numbers and mixed numbers, fractions, decimals, percents, and negative numbers. Lessons involve multiplication, division, patterns and functions, measurement, statistics and probability, common denominators, powers and roots, graphing, and geometry. Students are also exposed to the concepts of the order of operations, integers, divisibility concepts, ratios, and prime and composite numbers.Saxon is often considered a back-to-basics teaching method and is a trusted brand for home study and in school settings. It takes an integrated approach that's designed to review and expand on previous lessons. Each lesson in this edition includes warmups, an introduction of new concepts, lessons, and mixed practice problems. By the end of the book, students will learn about making a multiplication table, multiplying by multiples of 10 and 100, decimals in the metric system, and much more.Saxon takes a practical approach to instruction, emphasizing problem-solving presented through word problems. Students are asked to use mathematical tools and methods to solve real-life mathematical situations. The "Saxon Math 6/5" second edition draws on a variety of instructional components. The learner will undertake facts drills, mental math, and problem-solving. The second edition textbook includes daily lessons, daily practice, daily problem sets, and cumulative tests. John Saxon self-published his first high school mathematics textbook in 1981 after it was rejected by traditional publishers. He later enlisted other authors to help with lower-grade texts. This hardcover second edition of "Saxon Math 6/5" from 2000 was co-written by Stephen Hake and published by Houghton Mifflin Harcourt Publishing Company.The "Saxon Math 6/5" book can be a complete math curriculum for homeschoolers, classrooms, and tutorials when additional instruction is needed.
