This memorable edition in concert at The O2 has enough pace and passion to give you shivers of excitement and overwhelmingly moving scenes. Set against the background of the French Revolution and based on Victor Hugo's classic novel this is the story of Jean Valjean who is sent to prison for stealing a loaf of bread and is released after nineteen years. He meets and cares for a beautiful but poverty-stricken young girl named Fantine who has daughter Cosette. After Fantine's death Valjean brings Cosette up but he is haunted by Javert - a policeman whose search for Valjean has become an obsession.

Charles Spencer - The company give the piece their all. John Owen-Jones brings great heart, passion and a tremendous voice to the tormented Jean Valjean, who escapes from the chain-gang only to be hunted down by the remorseless policeman Javert, given a memorably sinister, doom-laden performance by Earl Carpenter. The latterÆs final exit is perhaps the most spectacular in modern theatre., DVD Verdict - Veteran stage actors Alfie Boe and Norm Lewis do a magnificent with the roles of Valjean and Javert respectively, as does Ramin Karimloo as the rebellious Enjolras.
