The HP Compaq merges business-oriented features and consumer-friendly functionality in the discrete and sleek 12.1-inch 2510p ultraportable laptop. With an enterprise-level security framework and superb IT manageability built around Intel Core 2 Duo processing power, the HP Compaq 2510p meets and exceeds the needs of your small to large business without tying you to a desk. The HP Compaq 2510p notebook has an Intel Core 2 Duo Ultra Low Voltage (ULV) U7500 processor that operates at a respectable 1.06 gigahertz base frequency and pushes 533 megahertz from its Front Side Bus (FSB). But the processor’s business-class features – enhanced Speed Step technology, Intel Demand Based Base Switching, and Execute Disable Bit technology – set it apart from other in-class processors. Intel Speed Step switches frequency and voltage between high and low levels simultaneously depending on processor demand. Enhanced Intel Speed Step Technology, which refines standard SpeedStep, separates voltage and frequency changes, and adds clock partitioning and recovery functions to improve the Intel Core 2 Duo’s power efficiency. To further processor efficiency, Demand Based Base Switching keeps processing power at minimal levels until a program requires more system resources. Execute Disable Bit prevents malware, viruses and malicious code from executing and propagating on the network or server, one of several defenses HP Compaq built into the 2510p. From BIOS to case, HP Compaq designed the 2510p to provide maximum network and end-user security. Intel’s Active Management Technology (AMT) automatically locks laptop when login attempts fail repeatedly. You can set a check-in time with your network server – a time you regularly log in, for example – that, when missed, automatically locks the 2510p notebook. You also have remote access with AMT, which allows you to shut down and lock the 2510p, display "Notify if found" instructions on the screen, and in extreme cases, brick the hard drive if needed. You can also encrypt the hard drive if necessary. A Trusted Platform Module (TPM 1.2) security chip creates a Storage Root Key (SRK) when a user takes ownership of the HP Compaq 2510p notebook, as well as an Attestation Identity Key (AIK), which prevents modifications to the firmware, hardware, and software without permission. When connecting to an LAN, the AIK and SRK send encrypted hashes to the network server, which compares them to expected values. If the server detects an anomaly, such as the presence of an unapproved hard drive, the server refuses entry to prevent possible network infiltration- and corruption-type attacks. HP Compaq 2510p laptops’ external security features include a fingerprint reader and Kensington security slot (cable sold separately). The HP Compaq 2510p laptop comes with 2 GB DDR2 SDRAM (667 megahertz), 2 GB of L2 cache RAM, and a 100 GB PATA hard disk drive (HDD). The 2510p’s motherboard has one SO-DIMM 200-pin slot open for additional RAM. For further expansion, the 2510p has two USB 2.0 ports (you can use one to connect an external HDD and the other for USB data transfer), one Type I/II PC card slot that supports 32-bit CardBus and 16-bit PC cards, and a secure digital slot that supports Secure Digital (SD) and MultiMedia Cards (MMC). You can install an SATA hard-drive caddy in the optical drive slot (sold separately) to add a 2.5-inch or 3.5-inch size HDD, as well. The 2510p has a multi-finger touch pad and pointing stick. The HP Compaq 2510p notebook comes installed with Windows Vista Business, and supports Windows XP Professional, Windows Vista Home Basic, Windows 2000, Windows Vista Enterprise, and SuSE Linux Enterprise Desktop 10.
